Introduction
Hello to all my friends, family, and others I hope will enjoy my blog. I have been following in the footsteps of my Mother, and Grandmother before her in the love of collecting recipes and cooking. I will be sharing helpful hints, kitchen tips and colourful pictures of the dishes I make and the equipment’s I use to create them. I hope I can bring you into the world I love being in. Enjoy!
Bio
My name is Wendy, and I am one of many generations in my family who love to cook and create amazing dishes. I have been collecting recipes for many years, and I have also inherited many cookbooks that were put together by my Mum and Grandmother, from recipes they had acquired over their lifetimes. Clippings from magazines, recipes scribbled on pieces of paper from neighbours and friends, and mouthwatering offerings handed down from generations before.
Like them, I can sit and read through a cookbook like a novel, turning each page with excitement to see what it holds. From sweet to savoury, nothing fails to encourage me to keep reading.
Mum and my Grandmother would devise the best feasts for family gatherings, from Christmas tables for dozens of people, to a youngsters fifth birthday party on a Saturday afternoon. Nothing was too big or small.
I suppose I better mention that it is not just the women in my family that loved to create the tastiest masterpieces. My Grandfather was a baker by trade, starting before WW1. He had his first opportunities at the local bakers, and from there he was a baker during the war, cooking for all the troops in canvas tents with wood stoked ovens, and then going on to have his own bakery when he and my grandmother left England for the shores of Canada. Opening a bakery in Ontario, they raised their two children and the cooking interest carried on to my mother.
Then came me. Standing on a chair beside the kitchen counter using a wooden spoon that was nearly as tall as me, stirring batters, and sauces, squeezing the jelly cloth coaxing it to release the sweet juices we would later spread on our toast, and making small jelly rolls with the left over pastry after the pies were made. Surrounded by all these great cooks and bakers, my life was woven with love and delicious food.
After raising my family, and before I hand down the cookbooks to the next generation, I, with my mothers blessing, would love to share many of our family stories through food.
So, sit back and enjoy, but with all the instruction I will be sharing, I hope you will all pick up your instruments of creativity and join me in creating the symphony of food.
